Netflix is an industry leader in the online video streaming sector. They boast the largest market share by over 50%. They pride themselves on Original content which is their niche.
Netflix is looking to significantly increase social activity and sharing on their site between users. This is as a response to Amazon Prime's rapid climb in market share. Netflix is seeking to keep a strong hold as the industry leader.
Prototyping, Usability Testing, User Flows, Research, Wireframes
In a short time span, Amazon Prime has gained a large market share due to some innovations. What we have discovered is that showing cast member names for each scene when the show is paused has been a delight for users when watching Amazon Prime shows.
Interviews were conducted with users of online movie streaming services. Our team conducted 2 surveys.
Do users know that some of features and content they are asking for already exists on the Netflix platform?
We made the use of personas to better be able to understand and solve the problems of our users in a way that gives them best the user experience according to their identified needs.
After coming up with user flows for each persona, we conducted some user tests. This was all part of an iterative process. After user testing we finalised the wireframes and created a clickable prototype which we further tested with users.
"We compete for a share of members' time and spending for relaxation and stimulation."
Allowing users to create their own "Watchlist" and having a more robust User Profile would enable users to engage with Netflix more, creating a social platform that encourages sharing.
Interactions were kept simple to retain the smoothness of Netflix.
Netflix has blog posts and clips on content that they are developing. They also already have stories on their actors. Users would like easier access to such content as our research showed. An "Explore" page could house such content in a magazine style flow.
